When you picture a new glass balustrade, you may picture the deck from outside.
Now picture using it.
Where do you sit with a coffee? Where is the outdoor table? Which part of the garden, harbour or surrounding landscape are you hoping to see?
Those are useful details to bring into the conversation before choosing a system.
Start from the place you actually use
From a normal, safe position behind an existing secure barrier, look across the deck at seated eye level.
Notice what is in the line of sight. It may be a rail, a post, furniture or the edge of the deck itself. Take a photograph from that position if it is safe to do so. Do not lean over a barrier or approach an unprotected edge for a better angle.
The photograph gives us a reference for the view you care about. It is not a measurement or a design approval.
Show the deck as well as the view
A second, wider photograph helps explain the setting.
Include the existing barrier and the area where a new system would be fixed. Tell us whether the project involves replacing a barrier or building a new deck, and whether there are stairs or changes in level.
The supporting structure and the requirements of the site affect which balustrade systems can be considered. Glass alone does not decide the result.
Do not choose from a photograph alone
Frameless and semi-frameless systems can create different appearances. Fixings, posts and any required rails also influence what you see.
A system shown on another property is not automatically suitable for yours. It is not possible to promise a rail-free result or a completely uninterrupted view before the site and system requirements are checked.
Use photographs to explain a preference. Let the assessment establish the available options.
Think about the everyday details
Tell us how you use the deck, where furniture normally sits and whether cleaning access is a concern.
If a pool is involved, say so at the beginning. Pool barriers have their own requirements and should not be treated as interchangeable with an ordinary deck balustrade.
If you are working with a designer or builder, include the relevant plans with the enquiry.
