Glazing for one of Tauranga's oldest and most established suburbs.
Reglazing older joinery, double glazing upgrades with new joinery, shower screens, splashbacks, mirrors and estuary-facing balustrades. First Glass Solutions is a family-owned Tauranga glazing company, based near Otumoetai. Call to confirm repair availability.
First Glass Solutions works out of Tauranga, and Otumoetai is barely ten minutes from base. Call to confirm repair availability and attendance for urgent damage. We are through Otumoetai Road and along Levers Road constantly on the way to Matua and Bellevue, so a job in this suburb slots into a run that is already happening.
Otumoetai is one of the oldest residential parts of Tauranga, and its housing stock tells you what the glazing work will be. A lot of the suburb went up between the 1950s and the 1970s: timber joinery, single-glazed panes, and original aluminium windows from the tail end of that period that are now well past their best. Putty perishes, timber beads rot out, and the glass itself is often thinner than anything you would put in today. Reglazing those openings properly, rather than patching them, is a large part of what we do here, and it has to be done to current safety standards even when the frame around it is sixty years old.
The other half of the work is renovation. Established suburbs get renovated rather than replaced, and Otumoetai has been renovating steadily for years. That means old shower boxes coming out and frameless screens going in, mirrors cut to fit bathrooms that were never a standard size, and splashbacks in kitchens being brought up to date. Larger sections are being subdivided too, so new builds now sit alongside sixty-year-old homes on the same street, and we work on both. Double glazing comes up constantly at the older end. We do it by replacing the window with new joinery built for double glazed units, not by slotting a sealed unit into the frame you already have. On the newer houses it is the reverse: a failed sealed unit in an existing double-glazed window, which we replace after assessing whether the joinery is suitable to retain. More in our guide to double glazing repair.
Then there is the outlook. Otumoetai sits on a peninsula between the harbour and the Waikareao Estuary, and a good number of properties here look out over water or across the estuary walkway. Glass balustrades come up for exactly that reason: a deck rail that does not sit across the view. Behind all of it is 40+ years of combined glazing experience in a family-owned business, a 5.0-star Google rating, and the same standard on every job: a measure and quote onsite, glass built to NZ safety standards, and a tidy site when we leave.
All replacement glass meets NZ safety standards (AS/NZS 2208).

Usually, yes. A lot of Otumoetai still has its original timber joinery, and reglazing an existing frame is almost always cheaper than replacing the whole window. We take out the old pane and perished putty or beading, check the frame is sound, and reglaze to current safety standards. If the timber has rotted past the point of holding glass, we will tell you that onsite rather than after the job.
Yes. We do not fit a double-glazed sealed unit into an existing single-glazed frame: the window itself is replaced with new joinery made to take double glazed units. We measure onsite and quote it opening by opening, so you can start with the coldest rooms.
