Glaziers & Glass Repairs in Welcome Bay

Glazing for a big family suburb strung along one long road.

Broken panes and ranch slider glass, double glazing upgrades with new joinery for 1990s homes, cat and dog doors, shower screens, mirrors and balustrades for the hill sections. First Glass Solutions is a family-owned Tauranga glazing company, in and out over the Hairini bridge most weeks.

One road in, and a lot of family homes on it

First Glass Solutions works out of Tauranga, and Welcome Bay is one of those suburbs where the drive is short but the route is not optional. Welcome Bay Road is effectively the way in and the way out, reached over the Hairini bridge off Turret Road or round by Maungatapu, and anyone who lives here knows exactly what Turret Road is like at 8am and again at 5pm. Being a local team rather than a franchise run out of another city means we plan around traffic and confirm any attendance charges before the visit. Standard repairs here are usually same-day, and for a smashed window the 24/7 emergency line gets the property secured first.

Welcome Bay is the fourth largest suburb in Tauranga by housing stock and it is genuinely mixed in age, but the single biggest share of it went up in the 1990s, and it is family housing almost all the way through. Family housing generates a very particular kind of glass work, and it is rarely dramatic. A ball through a bedroom window. A ranch slider panel that has finally given up. A door caught by the wind and slammed into its own frame. That is glass work rather than joinery work: in almost every case we replace the glass in the frame that is already there, in toughened safety glass, and the house looks like nothing happened.

The other complaint we hear constantly in Welcome Bay is condensation. Almost none of that 1990s stock was double glazed, because it was not required here until well into the 2000s, and the lower parts of the suburb sit in a sheltered bowl near the estuary where cold air settles, so windows stream in winter and sills stay damp. Double glazing is the fix, and we do it by replacing the whole window with new joinery built for double glazed units, not by pushing a sealed unit into the frame you already have. There is more on how it works in our guide to double glazing repair in Tauranga.

Then there is the top half of the suburb. Climb the hill toward Ohauiti and the higher Welcome Bay streets and the sections start looking back across the harbour to the Mount, and once a deck has that outlook a solid rail across the middle of it stops making sense. Frameless glass balustrade holds the view and still meets the height and loading requirements. Whichever end of Welcome Bay you are at, the job comes from the same family-owned business, with 40+ years of combined glazing experience, a 5.0-star Google rating, an onsite measure before anything is quoted, and a site left clean.

All replacement glass meets NZ safety standards (AS/NZS 2208).

Common Questions in Welcome Bay

Not always. We assess the frame, track, rollers and glass. A broken single pane can be replaced if the frame is suitable. In an existing double-glazed door, we replace the damaged sealed unit, subject to assessment. Single-to-double glazing upgrades require new joinery.

Double glazing is the fix, and it is a joinery job rather than a glass job. We do not fit a double-glazed sealed unit into existing single-glazed aluminium frames: the window comes out and new joinery made for double glazed units goes in, so it is quoted as a window replacement.

Standard repairs are usually same-day. We come in over the Hairini bridge or round by Maungatapu, and being a Tauranga team rather than one run out of another city means we can confirm timing and attendance charges when you call. For a smashed window or a broken door, the 24/7 emergency line gets the property secured first and the permanent fix follows.

Yes. We come out to your property in Welcome Bay, Ohauiti, Maungatapu or Hairini, measure up and give you a firm quote before any work starts.
